Animals in the Classroom
Spring, 2003

Our first "members meeting" was held in April, 2003.  We invited classroom teachers to share their experiences with keeping animals in the classroom -- from feeding tips to behavior expectations.  Debbie Zak, a parent volunteer and Science Coordinator at North Ridge Elementary School in the Frenship school district, demonstrated TEKS lessons with animals.  She coordinates the Zoo Crew -- a group of students who fundraise and acre for the 100+ school pets.  Tammy Motley, Ramirez Elementary Science Teacher, provided two door prizes -- "Sir" and "Prize" were 2 of the rat babies born to a pair of rat brothers (?).  Biology Professor Lou Dinsmore's students "wowed" the group with snakes and more.
