GEOTHERMAL HEAT FLOW LABORATORY

Department of Geosciences, Texas Tech University

Resources available at the heat flow lab of the Texas Tech Geosciences include:

  • Guarded hot plate heat flow meter (Unitherm 2022 of Anter Corporation) for measuring thermal conductivity of solid rock samples at temperatures up to 300° C

  • Thermistor needle probe units for measuring thermal conductivity of soil and unconsolidated sediment samples.

  • Temperature circulating baths

  • Outdoor temperature sensors and data loggers

  • BasinMod software packages (Platte River Associates) for geothermal heat transport and hydrocarbon maturation modeling in one- and two-dimensions

  • Geographix software packages (Landmark Graphics) for well data management, interpretation, and stratigraphic model construction

  • Other computational resources for heat transport model development (e.g., MATLAB, Microsoft Visual Studio, Absoft ProFortran, etc.)

For more detailed information on the lab, contact Seiichi Nagihara.
