The Summer Research Academy in Theoretical and Computational Chemistry (SRATCC) 2009 was conducted in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Texas Tech University from June 15 to July 10, 2009.  Organized by Associate Professor Jorge A. Morales along with Professors David Birney, Greg Gellene, Bill Hase, Ed Quitevis and Associate Professor Bill Poirier, this program encourages broadening participation in theoretical and computational chemistry research for local high school students and teachers.  This year, five students and one teacher were chosen from Estacado High School, Lubbock, Texas, to work alongside the organizing professors on research projects supported by the National Science Foundation, the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund, and The Welch Foundation. The high school participants presented the results of their research in a public session on July 9, 2009 in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, followed by a closing dinner. The SRATCC 2009 organization was financially supported by the TTU College of Arts and Sciences, and endorsed by the Texas Tech University Office of Institutional Diversity.
