Tips for Journaling in BIOL 4301/017

In writing your journal for BIOL 4301, it is best to write each entry as soon as possible after each lab meeting so the experience is fresh in your mind.  Each entry does not have to be submitted immediately (except the first), so you can add to your entries as the semester progresses and as your thinking develops.

Each entry should address two main points: (1) the students' experience, and (2) your own experience.

I. The Students' Experience

    A. What worked well?

    B. What didn't work well?

        1. Why not?

        2. What are your suggested solutions?

    C. How did the students react to the various parts of the lab? bored? enthusiastic?

II. Your Own Experience

    A. What did you do during the lab period?

    B. Were you satisfied/dissatisfied with your performance? Why?

    C. How did things go between you and the graduate TA?

    D. How did things go between you and the students?

    E. Any other comments?

Each entry should be typed and should be from 0.5 to 1 single-spaced page in length.  Do not place entries for different lab periods on the same sheet of paper.  Keep the entries in chronological order; they'll be turned in together at semester's end.  Because I will not read them until after the semester is over, if you have more urgent matter to inform me of, please send me an e-mail with "urgent" as the Subject Heading of your e-mail.
